YNPNdc and Opportunity Knocks “Retooling Your Resume” Workshop

When:
March 6th, 2008 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

American Association for the Advancement of Science, 2nd Floor
1200 New York Avenue NW
(two blocks north of Metro Center)

This workshop will help you to make your resume rise to the top of the pile!

Learn how to frame your professional successes with compelling accomplishment statements, and begin to compile your professional development toolbox.


The session will explore:

• Why communicating about your accomplishments is vital to getting the job you want

• How to write accomplishment statements that communicate critical factors in your resume

• How to write about these accomplishments in a cover letter

• How to talk about these accomplishments in an interview

• When to use a chronological or functional resume


Participants should bring their current resumes and be prepared for an extreme makeover!

Workshop Facilitator:

Dan Poux is a member of the YNPNdc Board of Directors and former Chair of the YNPNdc Programs Committee.

By day, he is an Associate Director for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science & Technology Policy Fellowships that provide opportunities for scientists and engineers to contribute to the policymaking process of the federal government. He works closely with federal agency officials, facilitating the selection and successful placement of Fellows, monitoring fellowship activities, and serving as liaison and guide to Fellows and agency mentors and supervisors. Dan is managing development of a comprehensive evaluation system to identify impacts on Fellows and host agencies. He is also leading an initiative to establish comprehensive guidelines for Fellows and mentors to support more successful placements and increased outcomes from the fellowship experience.

Dan received a bachelor’s degree in political psychology and a master’s degree in natural resource policy and behavior from the University of Michigan. He conducted his master's thesis research on volunteerism and mentoring. He has previously presented workshops for YNPNdc on Managing Up, Effective Informational Interviewing and Time Management.
